Hosting F.A.Q.
- What platform or operating system (OS) is our
site hosted on?
Answer:
Our servers run Apache Web server over Linux (UNIX) and Windows
2000 server. Most accounts run on the Linux server unless they
require Windows server
objects.
- What is SMTP?
Answer:
SMTP stands for: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. SMTP is used for sending your
emails over the Internet. You have to use the SMTP server of the ISP you
connect to the Internet through. This is to minimise the ability for spammers
to relay email.
- What is POP?
Answer:
POP stands for Post Office Protocol which is used to store and download your
incoming email.

- Can you filter SPAM from my email?
Answer:
We use a SPAM filtering
product called "Death to Spam" (D2S).
D2S is a New Zealand developed product and is enjoying a good reputation
as one of the leading SPAM filtering products available.
How does
it work?
No changes to your mail client are required. Once the service is
active on your Mailbox, messages will arrive in your Mailbox
with a tag in front of the subject line, for example:
[spam] great
sales ideas for busy people
[????] did you get my message?
[virus] great pictures to look at
Any messages that the filter has
classified as being ok, will not have any
tags.
The tags tell you straight away if the filter has identified
a message as spam, or a virus, or in the case of the [????] tag,
the filter has classified it as unsure.
How is it charged?
Active SPAM filtering is an optional service that you can add to
a specific Mailbox on your Hosting Account, as such, it is charged
on a "per Mailbox" basis.
SPAM filtering is $5 + GST
per month, payable in advance for 12 months.
